“Don’t rush anything – when the time is right it will happen” …. Well after many years of planning we are super-excited to finally launch our Cycle Down South supported mountain bike trail to the southern tip of Africa. We’ve spent many hours riding the different route options, negotiating with landowners and fine-tuning the product to provide a unique, personalised mountain biking product that I am sure our guests are going to enjoy.
Our first full test ride was a great success, made so as much by the company and charming people along the route, as by the cycling. The famous Witkrans hospitality, enjoyed by so many hikers on the Fynbos Trail over the years, followed the next day by those scrumptious pizzas crafted by local artist and bread maker Neil Jonker on his stoep in Baardscheedersbos and then dinner at Helen Manson-Kullins home restaurant in Wolvengat – delicious juniper and pork roast leg of Springbok washed down with First Sighting sauvignon blanc, oh and don’t forget Helens dumplings!
The route is beautiful, if somewhat challenging. It includes stretches of single track riding over the fynbos-clad mountains, some quiet gravel back roads, jeep tracks amongst the fynbos through the magnificent Agulhas National Park and an awesome section of beach riding into Agulhas. Come and join us, and Cycle Down South.
